“I don’t know if it was for the right reasons, but I did want us to have a healthy lifestyle,” she continued. “I was like, ‘I’m gonna be the best mom if I do this.’ It was a really good choice for me because it educated me more, but then I feel everything comes with balance.”

After all, whenever Weslie was out of her mother’s sight, she took every opportunity to enjoy as many gas station snacks as she could get her hands on. That’s when Allison realized that balance, rather than restriction, was the best approach to instilling healthy habits in her kids.   

“There’s a lot of healthy options in our home, but I also allow them to be children,” Allison noted. “I found a little more joy in it, too. I’m just teaching now what I’m trying to do. With Weslie, I was a little strict and now with Maddox and Zaia, I want to be a little more well-balanced.”
